JUST THE TWO OF US
Day to day on the farm we are made up of a small team, Kirstin, Iain and Pekoe the dog. Thanks also to help from our friends and family who chip in and help along the way.
KIRSTIN
Kirstin realised her passion for organic vegetable growing while living in Revelstoke, British Columbia and working on Terra Firma Farms in 2017-18. It is likely (although she didn’t know at the time) that the seeds were sown in her childhood having grown up on Scotland’s first herb farm, Scotherbs. Her Mum, Fiona and Granddad, Robert who started Scotherbs had a big influence on where she is today. Kirstin remembers sowing seeds with her Granddad as a young child and still remembers the smell of a herby compost heap!
After returning from Canada, Kirstin set up Guardswell Grows as part of her sister, Anna’s, Guardswell Farm, building her knowledge, while making plenty of mistakes along the way.
After a couple of seasons at Guardswell Grows, Little Trochry Farm market garden began. All Kirstin needed to do was convince Iain he wanted to be a vegetable farmer too…
IAIN
Iain is new to vegetable growing but has taken to it like a duck to water, or a carrot to soil!
His interest in food lies at the other end of the food chain where nutrition, health and well-being are at the top of his reading list. He loves to cook nourishing, tasty food and is often trying out new recipes. Making the connection to where food comes from made the leap to growing vegetables an easy one. Before launching into growing - Iain was a sourdough bread baker at Aran Bakery with our inspiring friend, Flora as well as slinging pizzas with our wonderful pizza pals at Luigi’s Pizzeria.
Iain brings the organisation to our small team, creating plans and systems that make us work!
Together we are committed to play our part in the movement to change our food system to one that is local, sustainable and provides nutritious, delicious food.
PEKOE
Pekoe is a German Wirehaired Pointer Lab cross. She is 2+ years old and is very much part of the family. Her favourite activities are mountain biking and trail running. There is nothing that makes her happier than a day on the hills.
Pekoe’s favourite vegetable is a freshly picked, crunchy cucumber.
